Good Morning Maldives ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data lawfully, fairly and transparently. This notice explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and the rights you hold over it.

Who we are

The data controller responsible for your personal data is Leapnour Pvt Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of the Maldives under registration number C35282025, with its registered office at 1st Floor, Greenvilla, Bahauddheen Magu, Addu Meedhoo, 19010, Republic of Maldives. Questions about this notice or your data may be sent to goodmorningmaldives.com@gmail.com.

The law we follow

We process personal data in accordance with the data protection laws of the Republic of the Maldives, including the Maldives Data Protection Act and any regulations made under it, and other applicable Maldivian law. Where we serve readers outside the Maldives, we aim to meet comparable international standards.

The personal data we collect

We collect only what we need to run an independent news service:

  • Account data — if you create a reader account, the name and email address supplied by your chosen sign-in provider (for example Google), and the identifier that provider returns. We never see or store your password for that provider.
  • Content you submit — for example when you vote on a First Light item, together with the technical identifiers needed to prevent abuse.
  • Technical and usage data — IP address, device and browser type, pages requested, and referring pages, recorded in standard server logs for security, performance and abuse-prevention.
  • Diagnostic data — if a page errors in your browser, a limited technical report (error message, the page path and a diagnostic code) may be sent to our monitoring service so we can fix faults. It is not used to identify you.

We do not intentionally collect special categories of personal data, and we ask that you do not send them to us.

Cookies

We use a small number of strictly-necessary and functional cookies (for signed-in sessions and your language preference) and set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.

How we use your data, and our legal basis

  • To provide and secure reader accounts and sessions — on the basis of the contract with you and our legitimate interest in security.
  • To keep the site running, fast and free of abuse — on the basis of our legitimate interests.
  • To remember your language and reading preferences — on the basis of your choices (consent) and legitimate interests.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out.

Advertising

Our advertising is first-party and cookieless. We do not build behavioural profiles of readers, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not sell your personal data. Ads are chosen by the page and the section you are reading, not by who you are.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that process it on our behalf under contract, including: our content platform and asset host (Sanity), our website host (Vercel), our reader-account database provider, your chosen sign-in provider, and our error-monitoring provider. We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights, readers or the public.

International transfers

Some of these providers store or process data outside the Maldives. Where personal data is transferred abroad, we take steps intended to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with Maldivian data protection law. [Counsel to confirm the transfer mechanism required.]

How long we keep it

We keep account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards; server and security logs for a limited period; and diagnostic reports only as long as needed to resolve faults. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Subject to Maldivian law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected; to have it erased; to restrict or object to its processing; to receive a copy in a portable form; and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority [regulator name].

You can delete your reader account and its data at any time from your account settings. To exercise any other right, contact goodmorningmaldives.com@gmail.com; we will respond within the period required by law.

Children

The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under [16]. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age; if you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls and audit logging — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to reduce risk and to respond promptly to any incident.
