What the numbers say

Short term

The latest readings
  • The latest figure is MVR 341,575 for Jul 2026, up 13.5% on the same month a year earlier.
  • In the first 7 months of 2026 the total was MVR 1.4 million, up 15.9% on the same stretch of 2025.
  • Over the latest 12 months it came to MVR 902 million, up 20,504.2% on the 12 months before.
  • The change on a year earlier averaged −1.4% over the last three months, against +86.3% in the three months before: the year-on-year change has turned negative.

Long term

The record as a whole
  • Trend growth over the past 8 years is 17.3% a year (least-squares fit on the logarithm; R² 0.06, a loose fit: the series has not followed a steady path, and this rate says little).
  • Measured end to end, compound growth is 125.2% a year over five years, on 12-month totals.
  • The latest figure (12-month total) is the highest on record.
  • The past five years include an exceptional swing in the annual growth rate, so no typical range is quoted.
  • There is a regular seasonal pattern: over the last 5 full years the high point has been December and the low point April. Compare each month with the same one a year earlier, not with the one before.

How to read this series

Revenue. Money received by the government each month: taxes (chiefly goods and services tax, business and property taxes, and import duties), non-tax revenue such as fees, rents and dividends, and grants from abroad. Receipts are lumpy because some taxes fall due in particular months; year-to-date totals are the fair comparison.

  • Shown in current prices (nominal). Part of any long-run rise reflects inflation rather than a larger real amount.
  • A flow: it measures activity during each month, and months add up to an annual total.
  • Recent periods are often revised as fuller data arrive. The version comparison below shows what MMA has changed since this site began keeping copies.

Terms such as percentage points, flows and stocks, and trend growth are explained in How to read the tracker.
