What the numbers say
Short term
The latest readings- The latest figure is US$149 million for Sep 2026, up 23.5% from Aug 2026 and up 27.7% on the same month a year earlier.
- The change on a year earlier averaged +8.0% over the last three months, against −23.4% in the three months before: the year-on-year change has turned positive.
Long term
The record as a whole- Trend growth over the past 10 years is -3.6% a year (least-squares fit on the logarithm; R² 0.00, a loose fit: the series has not followed a steady path, and this rate says little).
- Measured end to end, compound growth is 28.8% a year over five years and 191.7% a year over ten.
- The record high was US$150.3 million in Mar 2025; the latest is 0.8% below it.
- The past five years include an exceptional swing in the annual growth rate, so no typical range is quoted.
How to read this series
Official reserves. The foreign currency and other reserve assets held by the central bank, in US dollars. Reserves pay for imports and foreign debt in a crisis. Short-term net drains are payments already committed within a year, so headline reserves overstate what is freely usable.
- Shown in current prices (nominal). Part of any long-run rise reflects inflation rather than a larger real amount.
- A stock: it is the amount outstanding at the end of each month, not activity during it, so periods are never added together.
- Recent periods are often revised as fuller data arrive. The version comparison below shows what MMA has changed since this site began keeping copies.
Terms such as percentage points, flows and stocks, and trend growth are explained in How to read the tracker.
