How to read this series

Monthly GDP indicator. A monthly estimate of real GDP, split into primary (farming and fishing), secondary (manufacturing, utilities, construction) and tertiary (services) activity. It is the earliest signal of where output is heading and is more volatile than the quarterly figures.

  • Measured at constant prices, so changes reflect volumes rather than prices. The level depends on the base year; the growth rate is the meaningful reading.
  • A flow: it measures activity during each month, and months add up to an annual total.
  • Recent periods are often revised as fuller data arrive. The version comparison below shows what MMA has changed since this site began keeping copies.
