How it is calculated
Official reserve assets at the end of the month, divided by the average monthly value of imported goods over the twelve months to that month (customs records).
Goods only: imported services such as freight, insurance and travel are left out because MMA reports them only once a year, so this reads higher than a cover based on all imports.
Built from MMA series: Official reserve assets, Import of goods (customs). Figures MMA dates after today (estimates and projections) are left out, and a month appears only when every figure it needs has been published.
Other measures: Reserves in months of all imports · Reserves net of short-term drains · Reserves to broad money
