Wang Lixin

Serving in Malé from September 2021 to December 2024, Wang Lixin bridged two sharply contrasting eras in Maldivian foreign policy. Arriving during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's 'India First' administration, she focused on completing flagship Belt and Road infrastructure—including the 3,400-metre code-4F runway at Velana International Airport and the five-island wind-solar seawater desalination network—and marking the 50th anniversary of Sino-Maldivian diplomatic ties in October 2022. Following the November 2023 election of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Wang coordinated the January 2024 Beijing summit that upgraded relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership across 20 bilateral agreements, the March 2024 military assistance pact, and the preparations for activating the China–Maldives Free Trade Agreement on 1 January 2025.
